From my experience of learning and teaching English as a foreign language (EFL), I believe this "Practical English Usage" by Michael Swan is the most useful and user-friendly grammar book. Many other English learners and teachers do share my view. Actually, the book is often cited as "the bible for EFL". The book is an easy-to-read grammar guide written in plain English without extensive or difficult grammatical jargon. Explanations are simple and direct, well-supported with examples of correct and incorrect uses in comparison. Another great thing is that the organization of the book makes it very simple to browse any given topic. Words and phrases are indexed neatly, so the reader can research a broad topic like "adjectives" or find a specific phrase like "it seems" in the index and read about it. This book is an indispensable resource for me and I always have it in my bookshelf. I will recommend it to all English learners.
