Sour Grapes, The Tortoise and the Hare and The Lion and the Mouse are the famous tales that everyone has learned from childhood onward. These untrue short stories that use the imaginary adventure of animals to make a moral point are called 'fables'. But where are they from? Aesop’s Fables.
Aesop, the storyteller in ancient Greece, collected a number of fables that are characterized by animals and objects that speak, solve problems and have human characteristics. Every story ended with a moral lesson about human life such as greediness, envy and love.
Let me share one of the fables here. A thirsty dove saw a jug of water in a picture. It mistook it for a real one, and flew at it with a fast speed. The result was that it dashed itself against the picture and fell on the ground. With its wings injured, the dove was caught by a man. The story tells us we should not go for things without thinking carefully about it. Men’s passions sometimes tempt them to rush blindly into destruction.
Aesop’s fables, translated into many languages, is a book full of common sense and folk wisdom, just read a few pages and you will find it very inspirational.
